There are probably some additional sprites not noted and not all those below may in fact be sprites. All times are UTC.
A rather small MCS, just meeting size criteria, formed just east of Yucca Ridge at dark and tracked east and south into extreme southwestern Nebraska and northwestern Kansas, dissipating after 0700. It developed a very high percentage of positives between 0500 and 0700 UTC and launched a number of sprites. Many of these were visible on LLTV even though they occurred virtually next to the nearly full moon. Cloud cover probably prevented seeing a larger number of events.

We tracked two storms which were producing sprites. The first moved very slowly through north central Nebraska. The second moved southeastward out of Montana into the Black Hills region. It gradually gained strength after 11 pm, whereas the Nebraska storm was very slowly weakening. The South Dakota storm also began to generate sprites. There was a nearly full moon, but it was not directly within the field of view. After 0700 Z altocumulus clouds began to partially obscure the view to the Nebraska storm and later the SD storm.

Classic formation of an MCS due to beta to alpha scale transformation. Largest cell formed immediately south of Yucca Ridge and moved east-southeast into Colorado palins by sunset, where it merged with a seocnd cell. It continued to grow slowly as it moved into Kansas. There was growth on its northern flanks at times. CG rates were modest (800-1500 per hour) but often as many as 15-25% +CGs.

An advancing cold front from Minnesota to Wyoming resulted in tornado watches being posted for North Dakota and South Dakota for much of the night. Two large MCS in North Dakota early in the evening most likely had sprites, but thin haze near the ground due to the recent heavy rains made long range viewing difficult. New convection formed in northeastern Wyoming and northwestern South Dakota by 0500Z and they developed sprites, which became increasingly visible as the storms moved south and the haze cleared away.

Severe weather developed along the Front Range from YRFS south into New Mexico. The southern part of the system slowly moved eastward into Kansas where it weakened and died. It had many positives CGs and most likely sprites. Unfortunately small intense cells, associated with tornadoes, severe downbursts and flash floods lingered on in the immediate Front Range area from Greeley south towards Colorado Springs much of the night. These were electrically active, but too small to make sprites. They also blocked the view of the larger system. Brief clearing allowed sprite observations from a cell in northwest Kansas for a half our or so before clouds and weakening storms warranted a shut down.

Intense localized thunderstorms picked the Ft. Collins area to sit on until after 05Z, and then their debris clouds slowly moved east-northeast blocking the view of sprite systems in South Dakota and a massive storm system in extreme eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. We finally we able to see into the Nebraska/Iowa system before the satellite coverage ended and do have one confirmed sprite and one elve.

Several small but intense storms formed in extreme eastern Colorado. These produced a large number of sprites. More would have been logged save for some periods of obscuring clouds. A second storm in the Panhandle also was spiriting. New Mexico was able to track the sprites from this storm, as did Wyoming later in the evening. YRFS saw a few of the Panhandle sprites was mostly blocked by clouds. These storms were among the smaller cells we have seen produce sprites.

Small storms formed in eastern Colorado and provided a nice lightning show but were too small to make sprites. A much larger MCS in South Dakota generated a very large number of sprites and elves from 0640Z through sunrise (1015Z) under ideal viewing conditions. Alaska imaged at least events. The Phillips Lab and New Mexico LLTVs were not tracking this storm. Most events have both wide field and close up images.

Excellent viewing conditions again. Large MCS forms in Kansas and gradually moves east and slightly north. The following is a very preliminary listing of the times of sprites imaged at the Yucca Ridge Field Station. These are based solely on real-time visual inspection of the video monitoring system. There are probably some additional sprites not listed and not all those below may in fact be sprites. All times are UTC.
Active MCS systems in Wyoming, Kansas and New Mexico. All appeared to have sprite potential. Unfortunately clouds pretty well obscured these systems from both Yucca Ridge and Jelm. New Mexico Tech was unable to deploy a camera. We may have caught two sprites through the clouds early in the evening. VLF indicated many sprites were occurring.

Severe weather along the Front Range during the afternoon. This time the cells moved out into the Plains and clearing skies provided excellent viewing. A small cell in the foreground for a while blocked view of large MCS in Kansas. After a while a large number of sprites were seen from the Kansas cell. New Mexico Tech also imaged on their LLTV. Good photometer data obtained by Russ Armstrong.
