FINAL SPRITE LOG

The following is the final listing of the times of sprites imaged at the Yucca Ridge Field Station. These are on visual inspection of the LLTV video monitoring system. All times are UTC. The times refer to the start of the 17 ms field in which the TLE was first visible.

SUMMARY: Two major systems within view. The first was a weird linear MCS-squall line with tops to 650, hail, TVS and mesos which moved to the south-southwest from SE Nebraska into Northeast Kansas. Clouds cleared to allow us to watch this first,. It had a brief flurry of sprites around 0450 and then slow down and stopped. GEN III could easily see cloud flashes at 550 – 600 km. Major gravity waves seen in both GEN III and especially the USU imager. They looked like altocumulus clouds in the OH! Clouds finally cleared and we began to see some occasional sprites from a large slowly moving MCS in southeast CO that had rather high tops. The percent positive in both systems was rather low, so this may explain the rather low sprite production. As the CO system weakened, sprites stopped. Shut down at 0715Z.
