SUMMARY: Null Storm in Western LMA; Few TLEs from NE MCS
TLE PREDICTION: 0.35 (0.7 x 0.5)
RESULTS: 5+, null w/spiders case in LMA; TLE makes a few TLEs
LESSONS: can have big spiders but still no sprites
PERSONNEL: Lyons, Nelson, Fossum, Nordem, Gerken
STEPS STATUS: STEPS down. Bill B. and Ken E. on hold.
YRFS OPERATION LOGS: Partial operations. Mountain storms kept coming until after 04Z, when sprinkles and lightning finally ended. Shot SONY/WIDE w/ image integration the GEN III plus S-VHS dub, 1 KY 19 tape (FAS and/or LoLux), and 2 Xybions. Also tested PH unit and VLF. Seemed to work well..
As clearing continued still had excellent view of spiders from small MCS (10*4 km*2) about 150-200 km to SE but it never made a sprite. Relatively low percent positive all night may well have been a factor. The Colorado was just barely large enough, but somehow no sprites. Why? Where the spiders associated with negative CGs?
Air rather clear. Moon illuminated clouds.
STEPS OPERATIONS: STEPS down
KEY RESULTS : Interesting night. Have much excellent lightning video from storm which rolls overhead and into the western LMA. Good cloud shots. Many spiders. Linear MCS in NE makes a few TLEs. What are the charge moments on the spiders that did NOT make sprites? These spiders were mostly negative?? Moon quite bright. Great Xybion video of ICs in moonlight clouds (B tape)
Total TLEs from Yucca Ridge This Campaign: 950+
