SUMMARY: MCS In Panhandle; View Blocked By Clouds

TLE PREDICTION: 0.30 [0.5 x 0.60]

RESULTS: heard sprites but could not see them

LESSONS: a little lightning imaged on the fringes of the LMA

PERSONNEL: Lyons, Nelson, Fossum, Nordem, Maria,

STEPS STATUS: STEPS operates late

YRFS OPERATION LOGS: Fairly large MCS formed as expected in the Panhandle region and drifted east-northeast. Large stratiform area with +CGs extended up into southern Kansas. Most likely was producing sprites (Sounded like it on VLF) Unfortunately weak orogenic convection drifted onto plains but did not dissipate with sunset. In fact several small cells formed over the Colorado plains and produced some lightning on fringes of LMA at times. Took 2 hours of lightning video. Shut down early due to continuing clouds and strong winds.

Blue camera problems. Can not focus. Unsure of reason. Some digital noise found

STEPS OPERATIONS: STEPS operates.
